Shadow of the Cross operates a Before and After School Care program for use by Concordia Lutheran School students from both the North and South campuses. It is our aim to offer a safe, familiar place for children to be cared for while their parents work. Hours are 6:30 - 8 a.m. and 3:25 - 6 p.m. on regular school days. On half days, the afternoon session runs from 11:50 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is no care offered on days when school is closed.
Care is offered at a rate of $4.25 per hour per child. Bills are emailed weekly. Payments are to be made via the locked box in the Extended Care room - cash, checks or money orders are accepted. Payment may also be made with tuition, as long as the amount to the Extended Care program is clearly indicated.
Children who come to the Extended Care program may play with the toys, games, and art supplies provided; they may play with toys/phones brought from home (at the caregiver's discretion), watch TV/movies, or do homework. Time spent outside or in the gym may be offered if compatible with the group's pick-up times. A small snack and drink are offered at each afternoon session. These snacks are provided from an annual snack fee paid by the parents. Children may also eat leftover items from their lunch.
Children are expected to follow the same conduct guidelines as they do during the school day. They are to respect each other, their caregivers, everyone’s belongings, and the property of the church. Respectful and appropriate language and behavior are to be demonstrated at all times. Consequences for not following the rules are similar to the school’s: removal of privileges, written discipline notice, and informing parents.
Parents agree to communicate with Extended Care staff as needed, make regular payments, and pick their child(ren) up by 6 p.m. Support from home regarding the expectations of the children in Extended Care is greatly appreciated!
Extended Care Position(s) Available
The Shadow of the Cross Extended Care program is looking for a responsible adult to work as a caregiver at the North Campus. The job could be shared between two people. Hours are 6:30 to 9 a.m. and 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Could be ideal for a college student taking classes online, or even someone with a flexible schedule working from home. If you are interested or know someone who is, please contact Robyn Wiggins, the Extended Care director, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
